Asian music encompasses numerous different musical styles originating from a large number of Asian cultures. Asian music most often uses the pentatonic scale. Many styles of Philippine music use 7 notes or the European way of music because Philippines were colonized by Spain.

Music of the Philippines are performance arts composed in various genre, and styles of popular music. These include Rock and roll, Hip hop, and Pop music ranging from Western, and Eastern influence.

The music of the Philippines is a mixture of Primitive, European, American, and Asian sounds. Much of the music of the Philippines have been influenced by its Indigenous, and Hispanic heritage.

Early Spanish settlers and Filipinos used a variety of instruments such as flutes, guitar, ukulele, violin, trumpets, and drums. They performed songs, and dances to celebrate festivities, and other occasions.

A number of other genres are growing in popularity in the Philippine music scene, including a number of alternative groups, and tribal bands promoting cultural awareness of the Philippine Islands.

Also, there is a thriving, and active heavy metal, and hardcore scenes all across the Philippines. Although still mainly in the underground, the emergence of various online organizations, productions, and record labels has been slowly bringing them into popularity as various bands now have their albums on the store shelves of major record bars, and outlets.

Most of these folk songs and dances have remained intact in the 21st century. Nationalistic groups such as the Bayanihan, Filipinescas, and Barangay-Barrio tradition have been performed to celebrate Philippine traditional music.
Asian Music such as some of the major styles of China and Japan, emphasize timbre.  That often makes them too subtle, and very hard to translate to disc or to radio.

Music of Asia, from both American and Asian composers and performers, has gradually gained greater attention in the United States, especially during the last 30 years. A number of Asian composers and performers have immigrated to the US, often after studying here.

The music of these artists reflects a new confluence of multiple cultures - a powerful cross-fertilization of aesthetics and musical characteristics from both East and West.

The music is reflective of a variety of aspects of contemporary Asian and American societies, while at the same time deeply rooted in traditional cultures that have evolved over many years.

Asian music has left an imprint in this world, and will continue to do so. With such a rich and storied history, as well as a fan base that will continue to grow, there is no reason to think that Asian Music is going anywhere, anytime soon.
